Khushna work embodies painterly traditions influenced by techniques used in Baroque paintings and dream like photographic visions of Gregory Crewdson. The pictorial conventions and the strong physical presence in her work requires equally filmic methods, as Khushna prefers to paint from original photography rather than from live sources, regardless of the subjects being close friends. Her process of painting allows continuation and transcends not only from object to picture, but picture to picture. By painting a moment photographed at the most intense point, is just as evoking and emotive as translating a direct experience. 

‘Encounters’, her current collection, presents a combination of paintings and photography. Staged in Darwen, Oxford and New York the collection originates from personal experiences and acquaintances. The consequence of an organic assemblage of individuals, together with a calculated system of layering and stripping of colours, portrays a rehabilitated presence. Favouring dramatic styles and compositional tensions that influence ‘Encounters’, Khushna shares emotive relationships directly with the viewer, whilst the narrative radiates rawness and replaces the recollection of an individual’s appearance. 

Khushna was born in 1995, graduated from Oxford University and now works across London and the North West. Her previous work has been exhibited in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. To date she has completed commissions for Graham & Brown, Kensington Continental Car Services and Kapoor Group of Companies. Group exhibitions include; The Royal Society of British Artists National Exhibition - Mall Galleries, London, Ruskin First Year Show - Oxford, Ruskin.Show - Oxford and Here Is Now - Angelus Gallery, Winchester.
